Evaluation and Assessment

The terms screening, evaluation, and assessment have very specific meanings in special education. Are we trying to determine if a child is eligible for special education services, or do we want to measure the change and progress the child makes over time? The decision about when to use screening, evaluation, or assessment depends upon what is to be learned about the child and how the results will be used. Many instruments and methods can be used.
